Stainsby is entirely staffed by volunteers. Everyone that you meet during the festival who is in any position of responsibility for anything will be doing it for the love of it; worth bearing in mind.
If you feel to join us in helping any aspect of the event, you are very welcome. There are various roles and teams and to get a full sense of what each team does it’s probably best to chat to the people themselves via the links below, but we have included a short explanation of what you can join in with.
Site Crew
Where it all begins and ends… the site crew work on the fields from the week before the festival to the Friday Morning to set it all up. Then from the Monday morning after the festival into the following week, they put it back in the box. There are also one-off calls throughout the year for work days on special projects (our new barn was one of these). Some of the work is heavy lifting but you can choose your contribution and everyone’s effort counts. At the weekend, the crew enjoy the festival: there is no obligation to work the weekend. Being capable of waking on Monday morning early ready for work is, however, a requirement…
Stewarding
Our Stewards’ teams are a vital part of our overall effort to help the event run safely and smoothly. From the car park to the main concert tent, our stewards are often the most visble faces of the festival and the first port of call for anyone who needs help. However it’s not a positition of formal legal responsibility or decision-taking: that rests with the festival’s management staff and trustees. In return for offering us your time on a given number of stewarding shifts over the weekend, we offer a free ticket, full briefing on the role and of course, suitable back up. To volunteer, contact:-

The Hatblock staff
Our bar is organised in-house by the festival. This allows us to do two important things:
- 1 Keep the beer prices reasonable
- 2 Use any profits to support the festival.
The bar staff are volunteers too and, as with stewarding, it’s based on a shift system over the weekend.
Artists team
Backstage there is plenty to do. The artists team is responsible for the behind-the-scenes logistics of the concerts, performances, workshops etc. over the weekend. This involves co-ordinating artist arrivals, liaising with the venue staff and generally making sure that players have what they need to perform at their best. The artists’ team also work a shift system over the weekend with an initial briefing on the Thursday before. Contact the team on the address below:-
